Low phase noise microwave oscillator with greater than 60 dB second‐harmonic suppression

This study presents a microwave oscillator in which an innovative hybrid microstrip and substrate integrated waveguide filter is proposed for phase noise reduction. By virtue of equivalent circuit, the specific topology this clearly revealed verified by both simulation experiment. It can realize third-order elliptic bandpass response with two transmission zeros near passband. Specific be formed, high group delay achieved within narrow frequency range around centre frequency. feature makes performance very flexible its application oscillator, then reduces noise. For demonstration, example at 9.0 GHz was deigned, fabricated measured. The measured 100 kHz away from oscillation as low −120.06 dBc/Hz. Furthermore, featured greater than 60 dB second-harmonic suppression least third harmonic suppressed.
